The oak tower
This mighty giant held the title Pin Oak Champion Tree in Kansas for many years. It was cut down in 2020 due to rot. The lumber will be used, however! It is currently air drying.
Limbs of ivory
We have many Sycamores here in Larryville, as they are commonly found in river basins due to their flood tolerance. An amazing, sinuous tree with limbs outstretched for climbers.

Sugar Maples can make some interesting shapes while being pruned throughout their life. This particular one was no exception, waving it’s limbs wildly about as if in play.
a local favorite
This incredible member of the White Oak family gets many looks from passersby…it begs to be interacted with. The owners have had to go so far as to post signs deterring more ambitiously curious tree gazers!
Loner on the fringe
On the outskirts of town resides this giant Hackberry, rumored to be the biggest in the county. An amazing tree, it has been well protected and well taken care of.
cow-strong, horse-high and pig-tight
This american native gets its common name “Hedge” for the reasons stated above. For generations it was used to divide land, mark territory, and keep animals organized.

Sometimes called “Midwest Mahogany” this sought-after, dark hardwood grows all around us; a powerful tree that provides sustenance to countless small critters year after year.

One of the biggest trees I have ever seen is this massive CottonWood near LakeView Lake, just north of Lawrence, Kansas. A shining example of our State Tree.
